"Distinctly Canadian and undeniably innovative, Provinces is a West Coast paragon." - BarsnBands.com
The music of Provinces can be described as “Vancouver Island roots rock meets Nova Scotia hip hop.” The band is comprised of Nova Scotia hip hop vocalist Coop Deviants and British Columbia-born & raised Chris “Magic” Meglic (drums), Nico Carboni (guitar), and B.C. Ladd (vocals, guitar, harmonica). The band formed in early 2019, and they will embark on their first Western Canada tour in September 2019. This new band’s first two singles “Alchemy” and “Revolution in Every Room” are already receiving airplay at radio stations across Canada. A Provinces live show is a fun, energetic, and memorable experience!
Mike Cooper aka Coop Deviants: Mike was born on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. His first group was The Deviants (2004 - 2006), an underground hip hop quartet named after characters in A Clockwork Orange. Later in Victoria BC, Mike joined The Warriors of the Infinite hip hop group, which was nominated for BC-Wide Hip Hop Album of the Year at the 2014 Vancouver Island Music Awards. Mike later pursued a solo rap career and opened up for Madchild in 2017. He formed the original line-up of Provinces with B.C. Ladd and Magic Meglic in late 2018, before Nico Carboni joined in early 2019.
Chris “Magic” Meglic: At the tender age of 3 days old, Chris was a promising go-kart prodigy. Having had a successful career touring historic go-kart circuits of the world (his favourite being Monaco, where in his downtime he enjoyed playing baccarat and drinking champagne), a horrific Mario Kart accident with Koopa Troopa ended that career at age 8. Fast forward ten years, when he failed to pass the Juilliard entrance exam for bassoon, Chris became a drummer. In his spare time, he travels the world searching for Waldo.
Nico Carboni: Nico was born and raised in Penticton BC. He started playing piano at a young age, but he soon quit because he didn’t like to practice. After many years he picked up the guitar - when the teachers were on strike - and has not put it down since. Playing in bands and touring right out of high school, he has had many travel experiences and has lots of funny stories. Nico plays a left-handed Stratocaster turned upside down to mimic some of his favorite guitar players’ sounds - such as Jimi Hendrix, Dick Dale, and Stevie Ray Vaughn. The love of the guitar is always growing stronger in him and his energy on stage is fun and engaging. Nico joined Provinces in early 2019, shortly after the band’s inception.
B.C. Ladd: B.C.Ladd started writing songs at age 12, began playing harmonica at 19, and started playing guitar and singing at 22. To date, he has recorded and released more than sixty of his own compositions. Ladd’s influences as a songwriter include Damien Rice, Glen Hansard, Hayden, and Blue Rodeo. HIs vocal influences include: Colin Blunstone (The Zombies, Alan Parsons Project), Otis Redding, and Glen Hansard. His favourite guitarist is Reeves Gabrels (Bowie, The Cure, Tin Machine), and his biggest influences as a harmonica player are Magic Dick (J.Geils Band) and James Cotton. Ladd was born in Victoria BC and has lived on Vancouver Island most of his life.
